Since government announced the credit card tax, the sales of credit card had dropped significantly. Some even said it was as much as 80%.
To recoup their losses, banks had came up with various campaigns, including some dirty tactics.
One of the bank sent my wife a letter on December (just before 1 Jan 2010), stating that they had increased her credit limit to Rm35,000. Now, why would she need a credit limit which is more than 30 times her monthly expenditure?

(no, sorry, the picture is taken from the web)
One week later, the bank issued her a Platinum card.
Now we knew its trick. It was to increase the number of cards we own!
Immediately, we placed a call to its call centre. We insisted that we would want the card to be canceled without even being activated.
Dirty tricks indeed.

AYO! that is a dirty tactic! tsk tsk tsk…citibank?
Mott
No
It is CIMB
Same here ….. myself and my colleague get extra 3 platinum cards sent to us without us asking for us. We straight away cut it and send back to them.
They thought no need to pay one. Some more the RM50 tax is ridiculous.
Even with platinum card, also no RM50 waiver. If they give you, let me know.
Actually it’s ridiculous to have RM35K limit on a credit card. Imagine, you can buy a car for that amount of money. And if cannot pay back, think of the interest charges!
I’m glad you are wise to the tactics and returned the card.
Actually hor, the CIMB card was free for life also, and also, why they did it was they give u an option to xfer all ur balance over, so that the payment for the tax only starts end of the year, since this platinum card was sent on December.
Well that was the excuse they gave to my friend when he called them to find out why
Deric
It involves filling up too many forms (for those auto transactions)
