Tropicana City Mall

Decided to have a look at the last shopping mall, Tropicana City Mall.

Tropicana City Mall

Naturally, from the parking bay we would enter through Lower Ground. This was really a mood-killer. The design and decoration really wasn’t done to attract any customer, at least in my opinion. It was so … plain, almost to the state of … thrifty? Reminded me vividly of Atria shopping complex. That place wasn’t exactly doing a booming business, so why would the architect still a horrible design?

The entrance to Carrefour was again another let down. When you finally within Carrefour, the first thing that hit you will be: It was really really cramp, as if they tried to squeeze as much merchandise into a storehouse as humanly possible. Worst still, was … the air felt stagnant, stale and humid. You could almost imagine that every breath had gone through 20-30 pairs of lungs before it finally reach you.

Tropicana City Mall

Ground floor was slightly better, but only marginally. You were greeted by a huge display area, occupied by throngs of stalls selling tea leaves. Not exactly a ‘warm and homely’ sight we are so used to in other shopping mall ie Sunway Pyramid / 1 Utama.

Finally, when you reached 1st and 2nd floor, you breath out a sigh of relief. Now this was what we would call a ‘current’ shopping complex. We could find Toy’r'us / Golden Screen Cinema here.

The question that kept haunting you: Why would the designer adopt a yesteryear design to give you such a bad first impression? Mind boggling indeed.

I don’t like to go to this shopping mall. It’s cold and I even feel the feng shui is not very good. I guess it’s cheaper cost to have this kind of out of date design? Hopefully, with GSC more people will go there and make it a more happening place.

I think the tea exhibition is temporary only… normally it is a wide open space in the ground floor as well. You should try out Santini’s at the ground floor. Nice food, and comes with free kids meal and all you can eat bread.
