Simple Thing

When I was in Ipoh, I ordered this caramel egg.
(焦糖炖蛋)

caramel egg

Mum suddenly said: 40-50 years ago, my uncle ordered the same thing for me, in this same shop!

It amazed me that a simple recipe like this is able to withstand changes through the years.

It also made one realised: it is this sort of simple thing that sticks in ones memory.

Sometimes you can’t help but wonder why are we wasting time chasing after the extravaganza in life?

Wow looks good! Sometimes it’s the simple things that taste the best, especially if they bring back good memories :)

I agree, it’s the simple things that give the most satisfaction and meaning to our lives, like the smile of our children, or a good night’s sleep.

Spot on, Yenjai! Was devouring yam cake (wu tau ko) with a generous helping of Kampung Koh chilli sauce today and thinking to myself what a good life it is! :)

I was in Ipoh recently and my uncle took me to a dim sum restaurant where I had the best black sesame paste and this caramelized egg. It’s popular in Ipoh, I guess. It’s hard to find in the Klang Valley.
