i use public bank credit card which is free for life, with condition usage above RM 3,000 a year
Hmmm, I usually cancel and apply for new one with no interest, no annual fee.
But your way might be better, if u like the company and wanna stay with them.

我们都会直接开门见山叫他waive掉。其事，他们也知道customers都是假假说要cancel的啦。
I also call the hotline and ask for the annual fee waiver. No need to threaten to cancel your credit card la. Just ask nicely. Usually they just ask for a nominal commitment like use your card once a month or something like that.
