PETALING JAYA: The Joint Action Group for Gender Equality (JAG) has condemned sexist remarks by MPs and wants sanctions against MPs who discriminate against women.
Sisters in Islam (SIS) spokesperson Zaitun Kasim said sexist MPs had repeatedly stereotyped women as emotional and childish, whose respectability was dependent on their marital status.
JAG comprises SIS, the Womens Aid Organisation, Womens Development Collective, All Womens Action Society, Pusat Janadaya (Empower) and the Womens Centre for Change in Penang.
The reason these statements continue to take place both inside and outside Parliament is because we continue to keep electing them into power, she said.
JAG urged the public to say no to sexist MPs in the general election.
