3 Birthday cakes?

Posted in Uncategorized on Sep 20th, 2007, 9:36 am by yenjai

I remember when I was young, I don’t get any birthday cake for my birthday.

In fact, we don’t celebrate our birthday. My mum will just say: Happy Birthday. One year older lor, be a good boy. (sang sang seng seng)

My first birthday cake? I remember was a small piece of cake bought by my secondary school mates. I was so touched.

(Till now, 23 years later, I still remember who bought me that tiny piece of cake. They would never know that it is my first)

birthday cakes

Fast forward.

Now for my son, it seems that one birthday cake is not enough.

All the kid seemed to have a cake for their school, another cake for their ‘daycare center’.

Then the next day, those kid will ask (again): Do you have a bigger cake at home?

Huh?

When i was a kid, i got to peel two hardboiled eggs for my birthdays only.

My son is more han fok (fortunate). He got to throw birthday parties in his nursery school, kindergaten and primary school. He gets to celebrate his birthday at least 4 times. Now that he’s a teenager, he would still have his cake at home and then he goes celebrating with his friends and classmates.

My best birthday cake came from my hubby (then boyfriend) on my 21st birthday - a 2-tiered one! He threw me a surprise party in campus…since we were miles away from home. That’s why I married him la! :D

Wah fibrate — sooooo romantic lah! Some more do it with style!

I am not too found of the usual birthday cakes (prefer plain cakes) so haven’t bought any for years. Hubby always gets cakes for his birthday though — from 4 different people this year!

dobbs What about for your son? Or he prefer McD? :P

My son had a bad experience with a birthday cake some years back (fever and diarrhoea for a week) and since then I don’t allow him to take cakes with cream. Yeh I know I sound like a terrible mother, but I always placate him with ice cream when we have cream cakes. Plain cakes are fine though, although you are quite right — he definitely prefers McD!

dobbs Don’t worry. No one would think that you are a terrible mother. We all have been through that, don’t we?
Once I even stop my son from taking eggs for 3 weeks to see if his skin got any better. Kesian him.

Adino Wow. So kind of you. Will I sound like I … muka tembok? :P
