I remember when I was young, I don’t get any birthday cake for my birthday.
In fact, we don’t celebrate our birthday. My mum will just say: Happy Birthday. One year older lor, be a good boy. (sang sang seng seng)
My first birthday cake? I remember was a small piece of cake bought by my secondary school mates. I was so touched.
(Till now, 23 years later, I still remember who bought me that tiny piece of cake. They would never know that it is my first)

Fast forward.
Now for my son, it seems that one birthday cake is not enough.
All the kid seemed to have a cake for their school, another cake for their ‘daycare center’.
Then the next day, those kid will ask (again): Do you have a bigger cake at home?
Huh?

My daughter had 2 cakes too for her birthday. One for family , the other for school. The school one has to be a lot bigger than the family one , cos she said she has a lot of pang yaus…
eve Do you also supply drinks, tit bits and balloon?

When i was a kid, i got to peel two hardboiled eggs for my birthdays only.
My son is more han fok (fortunate). He got to throw birthday parties in his nursery school, kindergaten and primary school. He gets to celebrate his birthday at least 4 times. Now that he’s a teenager, he would still have his cake at home and then he goes celebrating with his friends and classmates.

They even say: My friend has a Power Rangers SPD cake!

My best birthday cake came from my hubby (then boyfriend) on my 21st birthday - a 2-tiered one! He threw me a surprise party in campus…since we were miles away from home. That’s why I married him la!
michelle Wow, special
fibrate Wow. Sooooo romantic ^-^
Wah fibrate — sooooo romantic lah! Some more do it with style!
I am not too found of the usual birthday cakes (prefer plain cakes) so haven’t bought any for years. Hubby always gets cakes for his birthday though — from 4 different people this year!
dobbs What about for your son? Or he prefer McD?
My son had a bad experience with a birthday cake some years back (fever and diarrhoea for a week) and since then I don’t allow him to take cakes with cream. Yeh I know I sound like a terrible mother, but I always placate him with ice cream when we have cream cakes. Plain cakes are fine though, although you are quite right — he definitely prefers McD!
Oh man… I’m quite jelak of birthday cakes already, especially those rich Secret Recipe ones. But shhh… don’t tell anyone else, they could be offended. My birthday coming soon. If got extra cake you want for your son or not?
dobbs Don’t worry. No one would think that you are a terrible mother. We all have been through that, don’t we?
Once I even stop my son from taking eggs for 3 weeks to see if his skin got any better. Kesian him.
Adino Wow. So kind of you. Will I sound like I … muka tembok?
hahah..secret recipe? muak ad…eat till sien jor..haha…i don mind having fried kuey teow as my birthday cake..hint hint to yenjai…lol
I used to pack take-home party packs for kids’ classmates on their birthday, no cakes and less messy!
four cakes - one big one for school (his classmates), one for home where he would share with my wards, one to be eaten with hubby’s relatives and one for my parents’ side. He celebrate his Bd at least 4 times. ^-^
