Long Bun Long Lao

Some years back, I was posted to a district hospital in the middle of Pahang.

The population there, according to the folks in hospital, is approximately 20% orang asli, 79% Malay and 1% Chinese.

In fact, there was only one place to get Chinese food for dinner. (Basically you can see the whole chinese population sitting and eating beside you. Less than 4 tables of us)

In such a rural area, the favourite past time for them is fishing, TV and … karaoke!

Everywhere I went, I would see people telling that they like karaoke. To show that they appreciate my presence, they regularly choose a song for me to sing.

You know which song ALWAYS come up? The famous Long Bun Long Lao (???? made famous by Frances Yip ????

???

Everywhere I go, I will end up with this song. Initially, I tell them I couldn’t really sing this song. I am given the are-you-abducted-by-alien-for-the-last-twenty-years look. Those Malay can really sing this song well, even though they can’t really read the words on screen.

Gosh. This song really represent us?
