This week theme - Hair.

.

So let me tell you a little bit about chinese culture. My daughter at 4 month old.photo hunters-hair

Whenever anyone see her, their advise is : Please shave her head. It will help the hair to grow. That is actually a popular chinese practise.

I had no idea how the practise came about.

Anyway, since we had similar experience with our son, we are really bochap (not really bothered).

This was at 1 year 5 months old.

The hair is still sparse. We obviously got hammered left and right by our neighbours / relatives/ friends.

Some of them even called us ‘dense’.

Stubborn as we are, we just get on with our daily life.

This was at 2 year 8 months.

Turn out ok, right?

Yeah, I don’t know where this practice came from, but I heard that my brother’s hair got worse after his hair was shaved when he was young. So, my mum didn’t help us to shave our hair since then. haha~~ (luckily)

wonder how those granny tales come about..

    your girl-girl is very pretty

  14. June 16th, 2007 | 4:29 pm

I have heard about that shaved head idea before too. So odd to see a baby without any hair at all! I think she turned out just right. Her hair is beautiful.

  15. June 16th, 2007 | 4:35 pm

Such a beautiful little girl. It’s an “old wives tale” about shaving the hair to make it grow thicker. There is no proof it works, and more proof it doesn’t. Great photo for the theme.

    Drop by my lair
    to see my hair,
    With time to spare,
    others will be there.

  18. June 16th, 2007 | 7:36 pm

I heard from my sister that ah ma(granny) said that at 4 months, shaving their hair is for ‘cleansing’, so that they will be ‘clean’ when they go to the temples. Well, its a chinese older generation belief.

your gal is such a sweetie :)

  19. June 16th, 2007 | 7:59 pm

    Your daughter is very cute.

I heard that if baby times never shaves to “botak”, their hair wouldn’t grow much when they grow up…

    Just like my girlfriends… haha

  20. June 16th, 2007 | 8:44 pm

She’s turning out MORE than alright. She’s turning out beautifully!
You can’t listen to everything people tell you. We once had a stranger tell us to let our daughter chew on a chicken bone to help her teeth! Weird!

  21. June 16th, 2007 | 8:52 pm

She turned out Purrfect!!! Just beautiful :)

Interesting, my mother is Russian and they (at least her family) thought the same thing about shaving babies heads to grown thicker hair. Your baby is adorable, and her hair is beautiful too! Thanks for stopping by!

  23. June 16th, 2007 | 9:04 pm

Wow…she’s beautiful. She must have followed the mother’s beauty. Did they also tell you to soak your baby in a tub of “Or Kao” or stout to make her skin smooth and soft? :P

Anyway, nice post you have here. Keep it up and have a nice weekend :)

  39. June 18th, 2007 | 8:51 am

Thanks for organising a fun evening with the bloggers on Friday. I just got back to my PC today.

  40. June 18th, 2007 | 9:07 am

Bernard I guess you mean … I should shave myself, too? Haha

  41. June 18th, 2007 | 11:46 am

Here in the Philippines, a child’s hair is not cut until he/she reaches 1 year old and we keep part of the hair that was cut.

But indeed, shaving off the hair will help it grow. I’ve been told that baby hair was really meant to be shaved off after all to give way to the baby’s “true” hair - whatever that means.

You have a very beautiful and cute daughter! She looks so adorable!

    Happy week ahead!

  42. June 18th, 2007 | 12:04 pm
