HDTV

After many days watching my small TV, finally the new TV had arrive.

After they plugged in all the wires, I immediately set to test out the TV. As it is a HDTV, nothing fits the bill better than a HDTV version of Smallville.

1) As I have been watching Smallville for six seasons, I know the ‘colour’ of the environment very very well.

2) Smallville is a rather ‘bright’ movie. Ideal for testing my TV (as compare to shows like Supernatural or Heroes)

When the show come on, wah, the colour and brightness is all Wrong. It appear ‘over-contrast’ and ‘poorly lit’. Damn. Did I get a faulty unit?

I check on the Contrast and Brightness level. The Contrast is at 100. Wah. Are they crazy?

I proceed to check on the internet for more information on HDTV. Apparently, there are usually four settings on any HDTV. When they deliver it to your house, it will be at “Dynamic” setting, which is optimized for their showroom. You are supposed to switch it to “standard” for your Astro, or “Movie” for your DVD.

Duh. Why didn’t they do it before they deliver it? Or why didn’t the delivery man do it? Do you think everyone will spend time looking on the net for such info? I think it is not wrong to say that there will be some who will be watching their TV for years, on the “dynamic” setting? Pity them.

Then there is the “sound” setting. There is enough control buttons on the sound menu that you will likely spend another hour on it, tuning it to your liking.

The one thing that I learned after all the tuning, is, TV really has progress a long way. You can have so many different settings for all your different inputs ie. automatically display at 4:3 for your Astro and 16:9 for your DVD

Only now I realised how far behind I was.

ECL, Nyonya Sorry for the tech talk.

Hanneng Ya lor. I never know there are so many things in the new TV. But I guess that’s how even with all the hype on LCD TV, this CRT HDTV still manage to produce an image which is better, comparatively

    I wanna seeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Yup.. there first thing I did on my TV was to check the settings for the contrast and brightness. In showroom or display “default” conditions, they usually set it up to make it bright and catchy.
