How we name our kids - Meme

I got tagged by the lady who is a good mum and can belly dance! She is ….FireHorse.

I am supposed to give the “steps” in how I named my kids.

Travel back in time. Ting … ting … ting… year 2000.

I was still working day and night. (Duh. Hospital job) Obviously naming my kid isn’t a top priority, seeing that he is still sooo many months away.

Then zap. It was 3 months from the EDD.

Wah. Where has the time gone to? Obviously my relatives has plenty of suggestions, enough to fill a few pages. To them, I should look at the family tree, and named my kid accordingly. I just tell them: I will do it my way.

My rule of naming a kid:

1) Should be easy to pronounce
(My own name had always cause problem. Thoughout my schooling years, almost every teacher pronounced my name wrongly. One of them even teach manderin as profession. Duh.)

2) It should not contain too many strokes, ideally each characters contain less than 10 strokes. I pity those kids which struggle to write their names.

3) Should not ‘translate’ into any ‘untowards meaning’ when spoken in dialects.

Hmm.. not much time left.

I roughly has one character in my mind. I need one more.

It so happened that my long-time-friend called me for supper. During the makan-makan, I asked Eggr what would be her suggestion.

Wah. Superb. She suggested a word which is … like chinese say : 四平八稳 (square and stay secure). Good name for a boy. Immediately I concur.

I told my wife the suggestion. She also agreed. Thus, our son got his name. Yipee.

(weird huh. He didn’t get the name from relative, not from the parent, not from some fengshui master, but from a friend. Haha)
