Songs Of My Heart

Posted in Uncategorized on May 10th, 2007, 10:44 am by yenjai

Before I come to work today, I went to the pasar (wet market) to buy … ham jim biang. Why? To throw at Eve, of course. Dang. She tagged me with this.

18 years old? That was a long long time ago. How to dig so deep into memory?

First, lets look at the rule.

1. Go to www.popculturemadness.com
2. Pick the year you turned 18
3. Get yourself nostalgic over the song’s of the year
4. Write something about how the song affected you
5. Pass it on to 5 more friends

I am not going to follow the rules, as it is far too restrictive. It is the song in my memory, right? Why only limit myself to the songs available there?

roxette it must have been love

Roxette - It Must Have Been Love This song was on the Original Soundtrack of the FAMOUS Pretty Woman movie.
(For those who has never been through the era, please ask BernardChan how famous was Julia Roberts, then)This song was practically broadcasted day and night on the radio. How did it affect me? I learned that fantasies not only live in children’s mind. Even adult wish for miracle (hope that one day some white knight will come sweep them off their feet.)
By the way, this song even got a dedicated page on Wikipedia, in case you need more info..

eternal flame bangles
.

Eternal Flame - BanglesThis song was equally famous then.I especially like this part:

A whole life so lonely, and then you come and ease the pain
I don’t want to lose this feeling
Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming
Or is this burning an eternal flame?

.

leslie cheung forever
.

??? — ????

Leslie Cheung was the icon, for Hong Kong singer, then. (Anyone feel otherwise, the door is there. You are excused)I like the part:

?????????? (I don’t believe in fate. I only believe in fighting towards my goals)

???????? ??????? (I understand there will be win and lost in life. I have learned to face it calmly).

.

??? — ?????
.
This is a Singaporean singer. I guess only those who listen to Manderin songs frequently will know him.
He had written numerous songs (famous) for various singers, but had only come out with a few songs himself.
Those few songs are hilarous, but very very truth-telling.

?????????? ?????????? ?????????
?Once we had nothing at all. Though we are still not rich now, we treasured it a lot)

Another reason I chose this song is because it has a part which say:
???? dam ??? dam ???????????

This verse was actually chanted to me numerous times by my mum as a lullabi for me, during my childhood.

Ok. I will stop at four songs.
I will tag … Fatty Poh. (I still need to figure out where in the world is Fatty Poh).

I can relate to almost all of the songs that you mentioned yenjai :) When I saw you mention “Pretty woman”, it reminds me of another show that Richard Gere and Julia Roberts did, “Runaway bride”. The most memorable part is when Richard Gere said the ‘perfect’ proposal, “I guarantee there’ll be tough times. I guarantee that at some point, one or both of us is gonna want to get out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don’t ask you to be mine, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life, because I know, in my heart, you’re the only one for me.” When I heard him say that..I almost feel like saying yes and marry him! hahahaha

And my favourite actor Leslie Cheung. So disappointed when I discovered he was a gay. haiz…..

You purposely do the meme this way so kaypohs like me will not find out your age, right? Guys also so sensitive about their age. hng.

eh…. receive my reply to your email or not. I hope it’s not lost again.

LM, of course I listen to them.
How can one listen to Gor Gor without listening to Mui Jie?

ECL Haha. I thought this is the normal way of doing it, no?
Oh yes. I got the email.
But … I need time to reply to it.
Figuring how to pen my word.
