Chinese New Year Ritual (pt 2)
When I was young (some thirty years ago), the angpao used to come carrying Rm1.10
Why Rm1.10? Well, according to Chinese believes, Rm1 is inauspicious, thus the need to add the 10cents.

Naturally, when Chinese New Year draw to an end, the bank will be crowded again. This time, everyone will be busy banking in their new year ‘harvest’.
With so many coins around, you will often see children hugging their piggy banks there. The parents would lift their children up to the counters while the children would proudly place their piggy banks in front of the cashiers. “dang”

Fast forward to current day. It is rare to collect any angpao which contain coins. Naturally, the scene of the piggy banks become yet another page in history.
