Chinese New Year Ritual

(I wrote this post after reading nyonyapenang’s)

One of the thing that we need to do every year is to get some crispy new notes to put into ang pao.

I went to the bank this morning. Fuiyoh. Crowded, like pasar malam.

I proceed to get my number. No. 1235

Then I looked at the display board. Now …. 1155

What? I have to wait for 80 people in front of me? No need to work?

I decided not to wait. Better ask my employee to do that.

bank queue

Proceed to the counter meant for new year notes.

(small note to nyonya: this service only available from 10am to 12noon everyday, in this particular branch)

Here, you will learn not to judge a book by its cover. The lady in front, though shabbily dressed, clearly sang out: “RM1000 for Rm1, RM2000 for Rm5, Rm2000 for Rm10.”

Brrr….. this really put me in a tough situation. How will I look when it is my turn to get the tiny amount of notes?

“Better ask my employee to do that.”
Haha~~ it’s so nice that you can ask someone to do it for you. :p
Yeah, bosses shouldn’t spend time in waiting for such a long queue.

I can understand spending RM5000 for ang pao, some of my friends can get RM100 or RM200 for one ang pao. But she exchanged for RM1 & RM5 notes too, perhaps she’s going to have house opening and need to give away many ang pao. Or, she’s changing money for her boss. :p

Dont feel bad about how much you’re changing, my wise mom used to tell me..” Win, you know, the only line when you should be happy quening is at the bank (or atm), becoz only people who are fortunate to have money to put or withdraw can be in that line..” :)
