Bank Form - A Joke?

Posted in Uncategorized on Jan 30th, 2007, 11:46 am by yenjai

I went to open a new bank account today.

They gave me a new form to fill up, which I have not seen before this.

bank

Among the questions ask:

1) What is the purpose of this account?

2) What is the expected frequency of your transactions?

This baffles me. Why had they developed such a form?

The kind officer then enlightened me: To battle money-laundering.

Ahh. I guess the less-than-honourable bank customer will fill up like:

1) What is the purpose of this account? Money Laundering

2) What is the expected frequency of your transactions? As fast as I can transfer my money from off shore

Duh. Real redundant.

they didn’t ask you to name all your combined total deposits in all the banks in malaysia, as well as all that you stashed away in the swiss banks?

    They did ^-^
    Nyonya, you so clever.
I had totally forgotten about that question.

I just look blankly at the question and decided to … leave it blank ^-^

    hehe~~ yeah, it’s kinda funny.
But, I guess there’s just something called ‘risk management’.
They have to perform their duty to ask you questions, but they have no obligation to check whether you are telling the truth. hehe~~
When we develop the software, we need to ask the users some questions before they can use the system. But the questions are just like “I’ve warned you, but if you choose yes, then I can’t stop you from using the system, I’ve done my job.” Sometimes I don’t understand why we need to ask that kind of question, but it’s part of risk management. We have triggered you to think of the risk, but you are responsible in it. :p
