Print Photo At Home (Pt 2)

We have talked about the problem of colour in the previous post.

Lets move on to the next reason why we should think twice before getting a photo printer at home.

2) Cost of Photo Paper

You don’t really want to print onto plain paper, do you? Any self respect photographer will only print on good quality photo paper. It controls the absorption and drying of the ink.

The paper comes from various manufacturers, though invariably it is never cheap. The cheaper imported ones come at USD 33.00 for a stack of 20 pieces. (A4 size) As you can print two pieces of photos on it, each photo will cost USD1.65 for its paper.

Lets not talk about the high-end paper, such as those from Pictorico. That cost more than USD100 for 20 pieces!

home photo printing

Of course, you can find even cheaper variant of the paper. I have yet to see anything decent which cost less than RM1.50 per piece.

To sum it up, don’t expect the cost of photo paper for each 4R photo to go below RM0.70

I agree with Nyonyapenang. Consumers like us don’t have the economies of scale to get a home-printed quality copy. Ohhh ..come to think of it, no sure when was the last time I printed any photos!

Hanneng, you can see a significant difference, comparing the photo printed on Rm0.40 paper with the one from a real photo printing shop.
