Just when we think it is the right time to buy a Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel already released its Core 2 Quad.

intel core 2 quad

Yes. Four processors on the motherboard to crunch the number.

Seriously, do we need that much of horsepower to run our applications? Is there something wrong the way applications are being written?

We cannot race with the technology nowadays. Just buy whatever you need. The most important thing is, cheap and worth the quality :D

i would get the fastest processor or biggest ram within my affordable price

the applications is getting more and more complicated and looks at best they could provide(check out the free iTunes 7)

last time we thought a 200k photo was good enough, now the minimum file size from a decent 4MP digital camera shooting at maximum resolution is about 1mb or so, and we think that is acceptable…

not to mention the web 2.0 will be a basic standard soon…

oh ya, we do multitasking most of the time we use the computer
surfing, listening to music, editting, downloading, working, etc…i’m sure the extra power will reduce the number of `freeze` time?

also need to consider the user’s usage pattern. Most PC users only utilise 30% of PC power.

Simple becos the marketing people say we need Duo Core, X amount of RAM, X amount of Disk space, etc to do this, to do that..

But the fact is, most of the time, we only use 20% of office apps capabilities, read mail, surf the net, listen to MP3… none of the task really used up to 100% of computer power all the time.

So stay within your budget to find computer that can meet your requirement.
