Even though Donnie Yen was born in Hong Kong, his grew up infact in Boston, MA. His mother, Bow Sim-Mark, a world famous Wushu and Tai Chi master, ran the internationally known Chinese Wushu Research Institute, and martial arts became a major influence in his life. Donnie Yen’s mother began training her son in the martial arts almost as soon as he could walk.
He frequented Boston’s notorious Combat Zone. The concern parents send him to Beijing Wushu Team for a more disciplined learning environment. (under the same master as Jet Li)
It was rumoured that he had once empty-handedly assaulted eight person which resulted in quite a few of them admitted to emergency room. Though the basis of that fight is not known to us, his prowness in martial art was proven beyond doubt.
