Ringtone

While I was looking at my wife’s phone, I realised the phone actually comes with very poor ringtone selection.

Out of the 18 ringtones supplied, I would say that only two of them are ‘usable’. No wonder the business of ringtones is flourishing.

Now, is it that the people at Nokia are not putting enough time to get their ringtone right, or do you think they avoid paying hefty price for ringtone and thus ended up with second grade ringtones?

While we are on this topic, another issue comes to my mind, which is copyright.

If I had bought a CD, and I decided to ripped one of the song into ringtone for my handphone, I guess I have violated the copyright of that song. Isn’t that a bit absurd?

phone makers are aware that their ringtones are sucky,
but they need to make sure ringtones suppliers, phone accessories also making some money. this is win-win for both phone makers and phone accessory makers.

I agree with hanneng. Telecommunication is a high growth industry. Most of the handphone manufacturers just concentrate on the technology in making the phone smart. Ringtones, themes or wallpaper are value-added stuff. It either comes from the mobile operators or independent tech co. So, nothing is free lo. Free thing not always nice :P

For me, I download from web on either midi/mp3 music later bluetoothed/IRed to the phone from pc. ;)

    hi bro yen,

To my understanding on the sale of good act, as long you bought the CD, the title of goods been transferred to you. You got the right to rip the song into ringtone for your hp. As long you you keep it for personal use and not to distribute it, I don’t think you violate the copyright. ;) To be sure, got to check the IP Act in M’sia.
