Whenever my son try to get us to buy toys, I always say : Daddy is poor. We cannot afford to buy all the toys you want.
With that, usually we limit to one to two small toys per month.
Two nights ago, my son happily finished reading his English story book.
My wife was so happy with him, being able to pronounce all the words correctly.
Wife: Wow. You are so clever. This Saturday, we will ask daddy to buy two new books for you.
Son: No. I only want ONE book. I don’t want two books.
Wife: Why? You like reading so much.
Son: Daddy is poor. Daddy cannot afford to buy two books.

He only learned to read the price tag last month.
I will give him a couple of months to get familiarized with it.

after me reach home, kena “rotan” as rewards
very guai zai. if i were your daughter, i think you’ll go mad. lol!
